Judging Criteria

Once the submission deadline has closed on the 12th August 2021, the team at Spitfire Audio and Stargirl’s Series Composer, Pinar Toprak will select the winner based on the following criteria:

The individuality of your score

You don’t have to match the original score, or what Pinar Toprak has done for the rest of the series. You could choose to program an orchestra, record live instruments or your voice, or maybe use a blend of synthesizers and free libraries like LABS. It’s about what YOU do with this scene with fresh eyes and ears.

How well your score suits the visuals

Your music should sit well with the activity on screen. Are you working around the dialogue and FX? Have you hit the cue points? Does your score keep up with the pace of the visuals?

How you handled the emotional content in the scene

The school bus scene that Pinar Toprak has chosen goes from intense action to drama very quickly and you’ll have to handle both of them with care.

The winner of the competition will receive:

Spitfire Audio Everything Collection - every Spitfire Audio library on two external SSDs, worth over $20,000 if bought separately

A virtual mentoring session with series composer, Pinar Toprak

A manuscript of the Stargirl Theme, signed by Pinar Toprak

The four runners-up will receive:

Spitfire Audio Albion Collection

A manuscript of the Stargirl Theme, signed by Pinar Toprak

About Pinar Toprak

Pinar Toprak is one of the most refreshing voices in music composition today with a diverse body of work spanning across film, television, and video games. She has composed for major superhero sagas like Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, DC’s Stargirl on The CW, and SY-FY’s Superman prequel series Krypton. She also scored HBO’s six-part docuseries McMillions, as well as Epic Game’s ‘Fortnite’.

Toprak was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey where she began her classical music education at the age of five. After studying composition and multiple instruments at the conservatory she moved to Chicago to study jazz, before continuing on to Boston for a degree in film scoring from Berklee College of Music.

About DC's Stargirl

Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (series star Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to take up the legacy of a long lost superhero team—The Justice Society of America—and stop the villains of the past.
