Diversity & Inclusion at Spitfire Audio

As a leading creator of sounds and scoring tools, Spitfire Audio is proud to work with a diverse range of musicians, composers, and producers worldwide.

Our mission is to inspire a generation of composers – equality, inclusivity, and diversity is at the heart of this, and underpins everything that we do. This page sets out the various actions which we have carried out to support this commitment.

The music industry’s race and gender imbalance are well known, and Spitfire Audio has been working to give a diverse and continually growing range of composers and musicians a platform; promote careers in the music industry to a wider, more diverse audience; and democratise music-making for all by offering access to the best sounds via intuitive, accessible technology. We have received industry and public praise for our work in increasing accessibility to music creation.

Since 2007 we have paid millions to the musicians who have performed in our libraries. Every time a Spitfire Audio library is purchased, the musicians, composers, studios and organisations we collaborate with receive a royalty. To date, we have paid out £21.1 million in royalties to musicians around the world - £4.3 million in 2022. In 2022, 1% of our total company income went to people and organisations doing great things. These included charity partners and organisations in our local community and further afield, such asSafer London, who support young Londoners, their families, peers, and communities affected by violence and exploitation, andMagic Breakfast, a charity delivering free breakfasts to school children facing hunger every day.

We also contribute grants and bursaries to schemes like Tileyard Education and the Abram Wilson Foundation who nurture and encourage underrepresented music industry talent. In 2022 alone, this 1% pot amounted to around £200k. We aim to create lasting impacts, so our support extends beyond financial donations. We regularly invite our partners to company-wide meetings to support their latest initiatives, donate instruments to local schools, and deliver masterclasses online, and host events at both our London HQ and stateside with valued partners including the Alliance for Women Film Composers and Saffron, who provide courses, community and resources for women and non-binary people in music and sound.

At Spitfire Audio, we strive to offer our customers a diverse sound palette. This is only achieved by working with collaborators from different backgrounds and life experiences. When the talented cinematic pop quartet Sons of Serendip were unable to perform during the pandemic, we collaborated with them on the popular LABS Micah’s Choir. We were also proud to collaborate with futuristic folk artist Lyra Pramuk on LABS Siren Songs, a collection of emotive vocal pads. We have also looked outside the western music tradition, and recently released Nok Cultural Ensemble Tape Percussion - a library centred on Afro-diasporic percussive traditions and jazz. Our product Spectrum was made in collaboration with composer, producer and DJ, Henrietta Smith-Rolla, also known as AFRODEUTSCHE — an innovator known both for her techno house productions and piano-based scores. We support important charities and initiatives via sale of our products, too. 100% of proceeds from the sale of Originals Media Toolkit are donated to Blueprint For All, a charity who support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in the UK.
