The Originals guide: Four new libraries join the collection
Since 2019, Originals libraries like Epic Choir, Intimate Strings and Epic Strings have become quiet fixtures in professional sessions, fast forward to 2026, four new instruments are joining the collection.
The new additions span a broad musical spectrum, from intimate orchestral colours and expressive solo performances to an instrument unlike anything else in the Originals catalogue. Together, they continue the range's mission of making distinctive, inspiring sounds accessible to every creator. 20+ Originals libraries are now available in our unified INSTRUMENT plugin, making it easier than ever to explore new sounds, sketch ideas, and bring them into your workflow. Whether you prefer to build your collection through one-off purchases or explore the full range with a Splice INSTRUMENT subscription, the choice is yours.
In the sections below, we'll explore the character of each library and the musical worlds they were designed to inhabit.
Originals Emotional Cello
A deeply expressive solo cello, performed with intention.
For projects that require emotion, intimacy and character, the solo cello remains one of the most versatile instruments in the orchestral world.
Emotional Cello was created with London-based cellist Reinoud Ford and recorded at Spitfire Studios. The result captures the instrument's full emotional arc in a single patch - from delicate Flautando passages to genuinely unsettling techniques like Circular bowing and No Rosin textures. Natural vibrato and dynamic breathing are baked in throughout, so the instrument lives rather than just plays.
Three mic signals give real flexibility: Close for an upfront, detailed voice; Room for the character of the space; and Vintage, which runs through an analogue effects chain for organic warmth and subtle saturation. A custom EQ lets you shade the tone from present and bright to dark and dampened.
Best for: Cinematic scoring, singer-songwriter production, lo-fi with real instrument textures, emotional underscoring for trailers and visual media.

Originals Intimate Brass
Warm, gentle brass recorded at AIR Studios.
Recorded in Lyndhurst Hall, this is a custom quartet of Tuba, Euphonium, Tenor Trombone and Flugelhorn, instruments chosen specifically for their rounded, less aggressive tone. Each player feathers across their most effective playing range, so the section blends naturally without managing individual parts. The result is a brass sound that feels warm and restrained.
The Long Air preset feels like a barely-pitched breath moving through the instruments, capturing a texture that sits somewhere between ambient sound design and acoustic music. Close, Tree and Vintage signals let you move between clean detail and the spacious reverb of Lyndhurst Hall.
Intimate Brass is built to pair with Originals Intimate Strings and Intimate Woodwinds. Together, they form a complete intimate orchestral section recorded in the same hall, a cohesive, up-close sound that would normally require a much bigger budget.
Best for: Pastoral underscore, intimate film scoring, orchestral pop, ambient production and hybrid orchestral arrangements.

Originals Intimate Woodwinds
The gentle side of the orchestra.
Recorded in the same style as Intimate Brass in Lyndhurst Hall, Intimate Woodwinds brings five hand-picked instruments: Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Clarinet, Alto Flute and Flute, into a section that prioritises blend over brilliance.
Like its brass counterpart, each player feathers across their most natural range so the section sits together organically. The Long Air preset takes this further: half of the players produce only the sound of air through their instruments, a barely-there texture that works beautifully under dialogue, in ambient pieces or anywhere presence without weight is needed.
The signal options include Close, Tree, and Vintage, mirroring the Intimate Brass library. Load them side by side and the result is an intimate woodwind-brass front section that feels alive.
Best for: Pastoral and nature documentary underscore, chamber music production, film and TV atmospheric beds. Pairing with Intimate Strings and Intimate Brass for a full-sounding section.

Originals Crystal Keys
Pure, fragile and unlike anything else.
The titanium euphone is a rare and remarkable instrument. Chromatically tuned glass rods are brought to life by the friction of wet fingertips, producing tones that shimmer, sing and evolve in unexpected ways. The result is a sound that feels strangely otherworldly and unlike anything else in a traditional instrumental palette.
Crystal Keys (previously available only in Kontakt Full as Titanium Euphone) captures the raw acoustic instrument alongside a set of Warps - processed versions that push the original recordings from angelic shimmer to genuinely unsettling horror-film territory. The standard instrument runs through Close, Room and Ribbon signals for acoustic clarity. Each Warp gets its own signal set - Direct, Bright and Cinematic, giving a distinct character per preset.
This is the library for producers who want instant differentiation.
Best for: Horror and thriller scoring, sci-fi and speculative fiction soundscapes, sound design, ambient and experimental electronic music

Do I need Kontakt to use these libraries?
No. All Spitfire Audio Originals libraries are now available in our new, dedicated INSTRUMENT player.
Do I need a subscription to access the Originals range?
No. Each Originals library continues to be available as a standalone purchase through Spitfire Audio. Now, you also have the option to subscribe and explore the entire range. Choose the option that best suits the way you create.
Can I access Originals libraries I already own in the new player?
Yes! All the Originals libraries that you already own can be accessed in INSTRUMENT for free, with no subscription necessary.
Can I mix the Intimate libraries together?
Yes. Intimate Brass, Intimate Woodwinds and the existing Intimate Strings were recorded in the same hall with matched signals, so they blend straight out of the box.
Are the libraries royalty-free?
Yes. Everything in the Originals line is 100% royalty-free for use in commercial releases, sync and soundtracks.
What's the difference between Crystal Keys and the old Titanium Euphone?
Crystal Keys features the same core recordings, now rebuilt for the INSTRUMENT plugin, so there's no need for Kontakt Full. In addition, Crystal Keys includes additional presets, offering a range of creatively processed sounds and textures that weren't available in the original release.
