Echoes of Greatness: The sonic history of two legendary residential studios.
During the 1970s and 80s, Château d'Hérouville – the world’s first residential studio tucked inside a beautiful castle just north of Paris – earned a reputation as a relaxed retreat and creative sanctuary to the stars. Its 1901 Steinway B grand piano embodies this spirit, instantly evoking the unmistakable sound of Elton John, whose albums Honky Château, Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road and Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only the Piano Player were all recorded there. The castle walls hosted many more greats from David Bowie (Pinups, Low), Pink Floyd (Obscured by Clouds) to Fleetwood Mac (Mirage) and the Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever). An intimate portal to pop and rock's golden age.
Journey now to Headley Grange, an unassuming English manor that rumbles with rock history. Here, Led Zeppelin were inspired to write some of their most famous songs, including all the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven and the truly iconic drum groove in When the Levee Breaks. Here, Spitfire Audio returned to capture the visceral energy of the spirit of John Bonham, played by modern icons: Chad Smith, Roger Taylor, and Andy Gangadeen.
Together, these two extraordinary instruments offer you a direct conduit to the creative magic woven within these hallowed residential studios. More than just samples, this bundle delivers the authentic character and profound legacy of the spaces where musical revolutions ignited.
Let the rich history of these iconic studios inspire the next generation of music production.
