FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS LABS?

LABS is a series of free software instruments, available in our easy-to-use, dedicated plug-in. The user interface is clutter-free and focused, featuring simplified controls, sliders for expression and dynamics, and a knob that can be easily customised to the user’s personal workflow.

HOW DO I ADD LABS INTO KONTAKT?

You don’t! LABS is a dedicated, free to use plugin available as VST2, VST3, AAX and AU, so it can be used directly in your favourite DAW.

WHAT SOFTWARE WILL I NEED TO INSTALL LABS?

You will only need the Spitfire Audio App. Just press GET on spitfireaudio.com/labs/ and you will be guided through the process.

WHAT SOFTWARE WILL I NEED TO RUN LABS?

We provide a VST2, VST3, AAX and an AU, so as long as your chosen DAW supports one of those plugin formats, you’re good to go.

HOW CAN I OPEN LABS IN MY DAW?

As each DAW is different, we have some useful videos available here which will get you up and running in no time.

CAN I USE LABS ON MORE THAN ONE COMPUTER?

You can. It’s simply a case of redownloading through the website.

CAN I USE LABS IN A COMMERCIAL RECORDING?

Yes - in fact, we encourage it!

LABS COMMUNITY PLAYLIST

How do I submit a track to be considered for the LABS Community Playlist?

1. Upload your track to your own Soundcloud account, featuring at least one LABS instrument.
2. Tag your track with #labscommunity and the name of the instrument/s you used e.g #labswurli
3. We’ll listen to the submissions on Soundcloud by tracking the #labscommunity tag, and will put our favourites into next month’s Community Playlist!

Should my track be of a particular length?

No strict rules on this per-se, but 1 - 3 minutes is ideal.

Does my track have to be an original piece of music?

To be considered for the playlist, your track must be your own original composition (not a cover) and free from copyright.

Can my track feature any non-LABS sounds?

Absolutely! But the LABS instrument/s that you include need to be easily audible and recognisable. This is a bit of a grey area we know, so you’ll need to apply some judgement here. As a rough guide, your track should be a minimum of 50% LABS to be considered.

Can I submit multiple tracks?

Yes! There’s no limit to the number of tracks you make and tag, but we will only feature one track from any given artist in each playlist.

Will I be notified if my track gets playlisted?

Keep an eye on your Soundcloud inbox. If your track is selected for the playlist, we will message you directly via Soundcloud messenger.

What’s the deadline for my submission to be considered for the playlist?

The deadline to be considered for the first playlist will be September 25th, 2020. However we plan to create regular community playlists, so if you miss this deadline don’t fret- your track will simply be considered for the next one!
