Spectrum
The Spectrum sample library has been released in conjunction with Henrietta Smith-Rolla's score for the documentary film Kamali. This concept is an invitation for musicians and producers to reimagine, recreate or completely pull apart the sound world of an artist to facilitate their own vision.
One rule I gave myself in the sampling process was whatever sound I had at the beginning, it could sound nothing like that by the end.

Kamali
This powerful BAFTA-nominated documentary film, directed by Sasha Rainbow, centers on a seven-year-old skateboarder challenging gender roles in India. Across six minimalist sketches, Smith-Rolla uses recurrent themes and motifs to craft gentle melancholia in unconventional forms, and in reducing her setup to just the piano, we are given a glimpse into a different side of her musicality. Using a simple arrangement of sparse harmonies and delicate melodies, Kamali distills moments of serenity into a series of introspective wanderings.

Henrietta Smith-Rolla
Henrietta Smith-Rolla, aka AFRODEUTSCHE, is a British-born Ghanaian/Russian/German artist, composer, producer, and DJ based in Manchester, UK. Her polyrhythmic compositions integrate a wide array of musical genres, including Afrofuturistic electro and techno, classical solo piano and Detroit legacy house; all memorable journeys into deep, abstracted sound. Known for her NTS Radio residency, her recent catalog includes an EP, RR001, followed by her 2019 debut album, Break Before Make, released on Skam. Smith-Rolla has written and performed scores for films and documentaries including the BAFTA-nominated ‘Kamali’ and renowned Earth documentary ‘Baraka’.
Not classically trained, Henrietta used colour and number systems to learn pieces of music. Her aim with Spectrum is to make composition accessible to all, offering producers and composers of all levels an inspiring tool for storytelling.
