At Spitfire Audio we make sounds for film composers. Our sample libraries and virtual instruments enable anyone to recreate the sound of an orchestra in stunning detail. Founded in 2007, we have recorded and released over 80 sample libraries, including collaborations with the godfather of film scoring himself – Hans Zimmer. Created with the finest musicians, engineers and studios in the world, our sounds can be heard across globally-successful movies, TV shows, computer games and albums. We are also breaking down the barriers to orchestral music making by providing a wide range of free virtual instruments, all as part of our mission to inspire a generation of composers.

Job Description

Spitfire Audio is looking for a creative, talented Product Engineer /Junior Product Engineer, ideally with a passion for music. The role is ideal for a talented junior engineer looking to grow and learn building amazing, first-in-class audio software/virtual instruments. 

You will be joining Spitfire Audio to further our journey building a multi-stream software development department. Reporting to the Software Architect, the Product Engineer / Junior Product Engineer would work within the Product department, developing various different projects for commercial release, and helping design and implement new and exciting interfaces for controlling and manipulating audio.

  • Implement software designs through writing, maintaining, and testing code across Spitfire’s range of software products. 
  • Analyse and solve problems, contributing to the development of testing frameworks and test plans.
  • Undertake testing and debugging across Spitfire’s range of software products. 
  • Peer review code within the software development team. 
  • Contribute towards maintaining a positive, supportive and productive culture within the company. 
  • Contribute to writing documentation. 


These skills are essential to the role: 

  • Experience in C++. 
  • A qualification in relevant area and at a level equivalent of UK RQF Level 6 (or higher)


Not all of these skills are essential but would be highly desirable to have skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Familiarity with software development methodologies. 
  • Knowledge of version control using Git and Git-Flow methodologies. 
  • Experience with developing components of audio sampler software. 
  • The ability to design and implement DSP algorithms. 
  • Experience with JUCE C++ framework. 
  • A working knowledge of AudioUnit or VST programming.
