PP010 RARE GROOVE E. PIANO

DEMOS

We don't have any demos for this product yet
If rare groove is your bag, this vintage and super primitive Vox electric piano, finger bass and electro-harpsichord will be a vital addition to your funk arsenal.
Eddie Harris

If you're a fan of rare groove you'll be familiar with the work of the Electrifying Eddie Harris pictured above. Alongside his totally unique set of electrified saxes, trumpets with reed heads and many other delights. Eddie favoured a very distinctive electric piano sound which we have searched high and low for many years to find. We stumbled across a very dusty Vox electric piano in a second hand shop on London's Denmark Street and feel we may have finally found it. So we whipped out our credit cards and brought it straight back to Kings Cross to give it the Spitfire once over!

Eddie Harris

It's a remarkably simple sounding, almost toy like instrument, but in the right hands just so very incredibly cool. From simmering jazz funk to something that wouldn't sound out of place on Radiohead's Kid A.This is a must-have if you're looking at building a cool arsenal of sounds. Presented in "Super Mono" via a number of rarefied vintage analogue outboard signal paths.

Available to download only from this site. Requires a full version of Kontakt 4 or 5 to run.

    BACKGROUND

We've been trying to get our hands on one of these for years. But it's raw simplicity is not for all tastes... We however feel this ultra naive, ultra basic sounding electric piano is also ultra cool. It's not the kind of thing you want a computer to synthesize for you. Which is why we've recorded it beautifully to maintain all those round edges and subtle idiosyncrasy. We've sampled it very deep and in "Super Mono" with a number of ultra cool mixable signal paths.
SPITFIRE PRESENTS IT'S "RARE GROOVE ELECTRIC PIANO"

    FEATURES

    Vox Controls Image
This 1960's electric piano has been given a total Spitfire "once-over" (608 groups, 19638 zones, 8940 samples, 25065 seconds / 418 minutes / 7.0 hours, 6880 mb / 6.72 gb!!) with us deep sampling the unit to give you as close a replication of the sound of the unit via the finest Neve Pre-Amps and Cranesong AD converters. Alongside a host of additional signal paths via rarefied vintage outboard that fit with the style of the instrument.
As the Vox E.P. doesn't sound the same every time you play it we have painstakingly recorded it with numerous round robins. We have isolated each sound first the piano, harpsichord and then bass and scripted a mixer that behaves just as it does on the instrument itself. Mix and blend the Harpsichord and Piano, or switch in the Bass to play in split keyboard mode, which you can then mix and blend.
We have modelled the vibrato found on the instrument and have given you both intensity and speed controls for this.
Vintage outboard signal paths include a Telefunken Spring Reverb, a Roland Dimension D specially shipped from Japan, re-amping into a marshall JV combi series via fine BBC Coles ribbon mics, and the modern classic that is the Thermionic Culture Vulture.

    SUPER MONO

    Super Mono Image
This 1960's Vox electric piano is monophonic. But we have taken pains to duplicate this mono signal and send through a number of different interesting signal chains using Class-A vintage outboard processing. Load, dial in and blend via the front panel. You can even assign to different Kontakt outputs to provide you with deeper mixing, stemming and track-laying options.
Here's a brief description of the different signal paths we explored:
    • Cl - DI via the finest Neve pre-amps and Cranesong ADs.
    • Dist - One of the filthier distortion settings of the Thermionic Culture Vulture a modern classic.
    • Sa - One of the more saturated distortion settings of the Culture Vulture.
    • Ch - Chorus via a vintage Roland Dimension D specially shipped from Japan.
    • Sp - Spring - A Reverb return from a vintage Telefunken Spring unit.
    • MK - Mixer King - A Guitar summing mixer with one previous owner Jimi Hendrix!!!.

    GUI

We like instruments that just open and play. So we have worked for many years to create a simple to use and uniform GUI so you learn one, you learn them all. With improvements being made constantly we frequently update the whole range to maintain uniformity in our interfaces across our entire range.

    General Controls GUI Image
    GENERAL CONTROLS PANEL
A simple UI panel that allows you to access the sounds available in this library and mix them together. Alongside the various signal chains sampled which can also be loaded, mixed and assigned to different output via this panel. You can also tweak the general settings. How many round robins you would like and how you would like them to behave?

    Mercury Image
    THE MERCURY SYNTH
Available to the individual patches, this synth panel allows you to instantly mess with the piano, from adding stereophonic chorus and phasers, a bit of splosh, to a bit of grungy distortion and tremolo.

    Reviews of other Spitfire products

"I’m am absolutely blown away by the tone, quality and value for money this library delivers! I’m a composer from Australia that has a crap load of software samples from all the major companies out there, but am absolutely in awe by what you guys have produced here! And this is defiantly the best value for money sample library I have bought to date. Well I’m pretty sure you now have a life time customer in me because of this one product and I’ll probably be up all night tonight being re-inspired by this library"
“I’ve been playing with it all morning long, and it’s making me giddy. If you’re on the fence about buying it and you’re wondering “Is everyone overhyping this or is it really this good” — there’s no over-hype here. It really IS that good. There’s a density to the sound, or maybe a wideness or warmth, that I haven’t heard in libraries before — not even in Symphobia. Just buy it. Totally worth going into debt over.”
“I’m absolutely speechless, this library is beyond my expectations. It features the BEST strings I have EVER heard!”
“Thanks you guys! My music has become much better thanks to your work and inspiration that you constantly give. This is the most incredible instruments in my opinion with widest range of possibilities. And I think, having all instruments from Spitfire is like having the one instrument devided to volumes… all of them perfectly works together.”
“Bottom line, the sound is fantastic…"
“First of all: I’m at a loss for words to describe the sensational experience that is exploring and playing Sable. I really don’t know what to say. Magnificent achievement. Seriously: this is the stringslibrary I have been dreaming about and waiting for all my musicmaking life. It is simply perfect. Thanks sooooo much to everyone at Spitfire.”
"WOW! Sounds like I invited a real players… It’s so amazing! Thanks guys."
"Cannot say how amazing that sounds…..just mind blowing."
"The best of its type I have ever heard – period. I do have a load of orchestral stuff, but this is the first library I have ever played where I can honestly visualise real players right in my little studio."
