Journal 009 - July 2016

Producing truly original music and scores isn't just about the dots on the stave, or the lyrics on the lead sheet. It's as much about the sound and production, so this month we talk with composers who not only write lovely dots in a lovely order, but who also pride themselves as samplists and creators of innovative sounds of their own. We meet our good friend, composer and our favourite developer, Pendle Poucher and the white hot Daniel Pemberton who has taken his off the wall approach and brand of music stateside with Blockbuster scores for luminaries including Guy Richie and Ridley Scott. We return to Reykjavik to talk to Ólafur about his amazing piano and how he made his 'Spitfire Composer Toolkit'. Christian takes us through his favourite sounds for quirky and original works and starts a series on how to write realistic strings, this month, Chamber (posh word for small).
