SOME NEW FEATURES FOR US TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO!!

Whilst building Sable Volume 2 we have also been busy refining the feature-set here’s some fantastic new features that we’ll roll back to Sable Volume 1 and across the entire BML range.

UACC Logo

UACC is a new approach to articulation switching. Using CC#32 we’re proposing a standardised list 1-127 of articulations that you can select via simple MIDI switching/ events. We’re going to adopt this protocol across our entire range and invite developers to help us refine this concept so users don’t have to adjust too much when switching between brands. To find out more go HERE.

EXTENDED ROUND ROBIN FUNCTIONALITY:
• “2x Round Robin With Skip” – plays two RR simultaneously, so you get a thicker sound, it’s the equivalent of plopping two notes on top of each other in your DAW (and it drops the overall volume ~6db so that the levels remain the same but it just sounds thicker). This doesn’t affect legato mode as we had no RRs. This plays the pairs and moves ahead by 2 RR. In this mode RR is effectively halved. eg, if you press a note it would play RR1/RR2 then RR3/RR4 ,etc.
• “Layer 2x Round Robins With No Skip” – As above but this plays a pair but doesn’t move ahead by 2 so that RR isn’t halved. So if you press a note it would play RR1/RR2, then RR2/RR3, then RR3/RR4.

MICROPHONE MIX TO ARTICULATION LINKER
A new small notation symbol next to the mic positions locks the microphone mix or tweak you’ve made to the articulation selected. This means if you want to boost any perceived inconsistencies in volume between say pizzicato and col legno you can. Or indeed if you want to roll off some of the hall ambience for a short versus the long articulations this is how to fine tune.

A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT BML AND SABLE:

After the delights of enormous string libraries, providing broad brush stroke approaches to writing, which have characterised recent film, gaming and TV music to some extent, Spitfire are at last proud to present a new set of brushes. The finest of sable brushes if you will, to provide you with the tools you need to write detailed and focussed string parts that have a personality and style that represents your personality, that expresses your creative will and provides you with fresh pastures of experimentation.
Spitfire presents Sable.

Part of a new, long-term project entitled THE BRITISH MODULAR LIBRARY providing composers with the ability to add fine detail, musical expression, beauty and focus to their work. To write music that musicians love to play and to get the most out of smaller ensembles and the wealth of timbral colour and character they can add to any project. After many years of development experience Spitfire will present this library with a user interface and set of features unprecedented in any library to date. With 7 mic positions, recorded at 96k through vintage valve and ribbon mics to tape through Neve premaps and Prism convertors, and presented at 48k, 24bit in Kontakt format, and additionally three extremely useful ‘mixed’ versions presented in Stereo and 5.1 Surround.

Sable is presented in modular volumes and consists of the finest players London has to offer, playing in the hall at Air Studios, regarded as one of the greatest scoring stages in the world.

The Sable band is 4 x 1st Violins, 3 x 2nd Violins (totally different players seated in their correct positions), 3 x Violas, 3 x Cellos and 3 x Contrabasses.

SABLE – VOLUME 1 Features “essential articulations” for the 1st violins and cellos. A deep and detailed set of tools that will provide you with everything you need to create the most amazing string parts. We feel that this module is a game-changer, the first time such a powerful tool can operate within your palette that doesn’t behave like a steam train of strings ploughing through your compositions obliterating everything in it’s path. With an Albion as a base unit, these sable brushes bring everything into sharp focus. But as a complete set, these will be a thing to behold. We hope sampled section strings will never sound the same again and usher in a new era of sophisticated and diverse string writing.

SABLE – VOLUME 2 Will compliment Sable 1′s it’s “essential articulations” for the 1st violins and cellos with a similar selection of “essential articulations” for 2nd violins, violas and basses.

SABLE – VOLUME 3 Will compliment Sable 1&2′s “essential articulations” for the 1st & 2nd violins, violas, cello and basses with an exciting selection of “additional articulations” alongside extended functionality for volumes 1&2. ETA June 2013

BML SABLE – VOLUME 2 RELEASE DATE AND PROMOS ANNOUNCED!!

It is our very great pleasure to announce that Volume 2 of Sable is to be released on the 30th of April. We’re so excited about this next instalment in our definitive strings range. Not only does it feature fantastic basses, stunningly beautiful violas but most importantly, the oft forgotten 2nd violin section! These are a slightly smaller group (3 versus the 4 of the 1sts) of entirely different players playing entirely different instruments in a different part of the hall. They’ll give you an alternative to every violin 1 patch you already have alongside thickening up and enriching your detailed string parts with a truer realisation of sampled strings. Check out Paul’s very quick taster walk-through to get an idea of what we’re going on about:

As promised this volume is available individually for a limited time only (until the 14th of May) at the reduced price of £299 (RRP £399). Go HERE for more information.

But through popular demand we have also created two other promotions for those who missed the original bargain pre-release bundle offer. It’s not as great a deal as the original bundle offer, that wouldn’t be fair to the first wave of early adopters, but as composers ourselves we’re here to make people’s lives easier not harder! So this is the best we could do.

For those of you who already own a copy of Sable 1 we have also created a “complete your range” deal of £459 which saves you around £139, we’ll also send you a 10% off discount voucher at the end of this promo period for future purchases. Go HERE for more info.

For those of you who haven’t taken the plunge we have a “grab the whole bundle” deal at £858 which saves you around £139, we’ll also send you a 10% off discount voucher at the end of this promo period for future purchases. Go HERE for more info.

Bg2OBANNER

PROMO PERIOD ENDS 28th APRIL!!

CHECK OUT THIS WALKTRHOUGH:

…AND THIS COMPOSITIONAL SCREEN-CAST:

Hg2O is a set of samples performed by Paul Clarvis of a metallic atonal acoustic musical instrument consisting of a stainless steel resonator bowl or pan with a cylindrical neck and bronze rods of different lengths and diameters around the rim of the bowl. The resonator may contain a small amount of water giving the waterphone a vibrant ethereal sound that has appeared in countless movie soundtracks, record albums, and live performances.

Recorded by Jake Jackson at Lyndhurst Hall – Air Studios, one of the finest scoring stages in the world through a huge array of priceless vintage microphones via Neve “monserrat” pre-amps to a beautifully serviced Studer 2″ tape machine and then into digital at 96k via the best Prism AD converters this is an unparalleled signal chain.

We’ve sampled deeply both bowed or drummed with movements to affect the water inside. This creates the resonant characteristics of the bowl and rods in combination with the movement of the water. The sound of the instrumentwaterphone is often used to evoke mystery and suspense.

Articulations will include:

C0 to B0 – bowed rods 1 to 7 (4 RR and two bow positions, high and low)
– bow position controlled by velocity with split at 64
– MW controls water level – empty at 0, half at 64, full at 127

C1 to C2 – plucked rods 1 to 7 and ‘under’ (4 RR and MW control of water)

C3 to A3 – hand sweeps

C4 to A4 – brushes sweeps

C5 to A5 – fast bow sweeps

C6 to B6 – bowed sweeps

MW can either switch samples or xfade them for water control

Three ‘tuned’ keyboard tines plucked and bowed, and one ‘gamelan’ style untuned

and then the MERCURY SYNTH (various sound design patches with full Albion III controls).

Presented for the Kontakt platform (full version required) at 48k 24 bit with 8 different mic positions!!

RELEASED ON 18th APRIL AT THE INTRODUCTORY PRICE OF £33 (RRP £44) THIS OFFER WILL LAST 10 DAYS.
